About Aalborg University

Aalborg University, founded in 1974 in Aalborg, Denmark, is known for its problem-based learning model and strong engineering programs. Its space activities are centered on the AAUSAT series of student-built CubeSats, developed primarily by undergraduate and graduate students under faculty supervision as part of the university's practical, project-driven curriculum.

The AAUSAT program began in the early 2000s and has produced multiple generations of nanosatellites, including AAUSAT-II, AAUSAT-3, AAUSAT-4, and AAUSAT-5, each incrementally advancing the university's capabilities in small satellite design, ground station operations, and mission payload integration such as automatic identification system (AIS) receivers for maritime vessel tracking.

Through its Space Science and Technology group, Aalborg University continues to train generations of engineers in end-to-end satellite development, from concept and design through launch and in-orbit operations, making it one of the pioneering university CubeSat programs in Europe.
