AVIC (Aviation Industry Corp of China) Space Division

AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) is a Chinese state-owned aerospace and defense conglomerate headquartered in Beijing, formed in November 2008 from the merger of AVIC I and AVIC II. With over 100 subsidiaries, roughly two dozen listed companies, and several hundred thousand employees, AVIC is China's dominant aircraft manufacturer, producing the country's military fighters, trainers, transports, helicopters, and UAVs, alongside civil aircraft, avionics, aero-engines, and diversified industrial products.

AVIC is not one of China's primary space contractors — that role belongs to the separate state enterprises CASC and CASIC. AVIC's space-related activity is narrow and emerging: its subsidiary, the Chengdu Aircraft Design and Research Institute (part of AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group), was contracted by the China Manned Space Agency in 2024 to develop "Haolong," a winged, reusable, uncrewed cargo spaceplane intended to resupply the Tiangong space station and return cargo to Earth. Unveiled at Airshow China in Zhuhai in November 2024, Haolong is around 10 meters long with an 8-meter wingspan and a cargo capacity under 7 tonnes, and is currently in engineering development.

This single program represents AVIC's only identifiable foray into space systems as of 2026; the corporation does not otherwise market a distinct space product line, division storefront, or catalog of space hardware. Buyers researching AVIC on this marketplace should understand its "space" activity as one nascent government-directed program within a much larger aviation/defense conglomerate, not a dedicated commercial space business.
