About Cryptosat

Cryptosat was founded in 2020 by Yan Michalevsky (PhD, Stanford; co-founder of confidential-computing company Anjuna) and Yonatan Winetraub (PhD, Stanford; co-founder of SpaceIL, the first private lunar mission), together with satellite-systems lead Elad Sagi. The company's mission is to build satellites that power cryptographic, blockchain, and ledger applications by leveraging the most secure root-of-trust available: outer space. Once in orbit, a satellite cannot be physically accessed, tampered with, or side-channel attacked, and every satellite is independently tracked by space agencies such as NORAD, giving Cryptosat's platform a unique combination of tamper-proofness and transparency that is used to anchor trust for blockchain and Web3 systems.

Cryptosat has flown a growing constellation of CubeSats carrying its cryptographic payloads: Crypto1 (launched May 2022), Crypto2 (launched January 2023), and Crypto3, a 3U CubeSat launched November 2023 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 Transporter rideshare mission aboard a D-Orbit ION orbital transfer vehicle. Crypto3 carries three onboard "Crypto Cards" — ARM-processor compute modules with hundreds of gigabytes of storage — and a pair of Iridium 9603 transceivers for global connectivity, and was authorized for experimental operation by Germany's Bundesnetzagentur. Across its satellites the company has demonstrated verifiable randomness generation, threshold/multi-party-computation (MPC) key management, and secure key-ceremony operations in orbit, including a public contribution to the Ethereum KZG trusted-setup ceremony and collaborations with Protocol Labs, Dfns, and Shutter Network to protect cryptographic keys and blockchain infrastructure using satellite-based trust anchors.

Building on its CubeSat flight heritage, Cryptosat has extended its technology into cEDGE, a satellite edge-compute terminal that pairs onboard AI processing with secure cloud (AWS) integration and Iridium cross-link connectivity, aimed at satellite operators who need always-on connectivity, onboard data processing, and a hardware root of trust for their own spacecraft. Cryptosat's advisory board includes Stanford cryptography professor Dan Boneh, Filecoin/IPFS creator and Protocol Labs CEO Juan Benet, Yale professor and Espresso Systems CEO Ben Fisch, and other cryptography and space-industry veterans.
