About Hungarian Space Office (HSO)

The Hungarian Space Office (HSO; Hungarian: Magyar Ûrkutatási Iroda) is Hungary's national space authority, operating under the Hungarian Government to coordinate the country's participation in European Space Agency (ESA) programs and other international space initiatives. The HSO manages Hungary's national space policy, oversees space-related research and development funding, and represents Hungarian interests in multilateral space forums.

Hungary became an ESA Associate Member in 1991 and a full member in 2015, with the HSO serving as the primary interface between the Hungarian government, academia, and industry on one side, and ESA and international partners on the other. The office administers ESA's PECS (Plan for European Cooperating States) programmes and coordinates Hungarian contributions to flagship ESA missions and technology development activities.

Notable Hungarian space activities include contributions to the HUNOR astronaut programme — Hungary's national astronaut project — and participation in ESA science, Earth observation, and technology missions through Hungarian research institutes and space companies.
