IDEAS (Integrated Detector Electronics AS)

IDEAS (Integrated Detector Electronics AS) was founded in 1992 in Oslo, Norway, by scientists and engineers from CERN and the University of Oslo. The company specializes in designing and manufacturing custom integrated circuits and subsystems for the readout of radiation detectors and image sensors, serving medical imaging, industrial scanning, nuclear science, security and astrophysics/space applications.

IDEAS is a fabless IC supplier: its portfolio spans low-noise, low-power ASICs for CZT/CdTe/TlBr/silicon/PMT/SiPM/MPPC detector readout, rad-hard infrared readout electronics (MCT, T2SL, InGaAs, HgCdTe, microbolometer), and fully integrated radiation instruments and imaging systems. Many designs are radiation-hardened against latch-up and single-event upsets for use in space.

The company's flight heritage includes the NORM (Norwegian Radiation Monitor), flown on the Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission (ASBM) operated by Space Norway, measuring energetic charged-particle radiation and space weather in a highly elliptical orbit. In 2026 IDEAS joined SPIRIT, a EUR 39 million European Defence Fund project coordinated by LYNRED (France) to build a sovereign European supply chain for high-resolution infrared image sensors.

IDEAS supplies bare-die or packaged ASICs, application-specific and carrier boards, and IC development kits to accelerate customer integration, from stock with short lead times.
