ABL Space Systems was founded in 2017 in El Segundo, California, and spent seven years developing the RS1 rocket, a two-stage orbital launch vehicle designed to carry small satellite and rideshare payloads using liquid oxygen and kerosene E2 engines, with an emphasis on modular, rapidly-deployable ground support equipment. Following setbacks in its RS1 flight test campaign from Kodiak, Alaska, the company pivoted its focus in late 2024 toward the missile defense market and rebranded as Long Wall in February 2025. Long Wall now develops Cyclops, a mass-producible exoatmospheric interceptor, RSX, a low-cost liquid booster for flight testing and threat replication, and Ironwood, deployable ground support equipment for global launch and test operations. The company consolidated operations at its Long Beach, California facility after closing its El Segundo office and Mojave test site, while retaining launch and test operations at Kodiak, Alaska.
Cyclops is Long Wall's mass-producible, surface-launched, exoatmospheric interceptor designed to defeat ballistic missiles in the midcourse phase of flight. Announced in December 2025, Cyclops provides high-performance, low-cost magazine depth for both homeland and regional missile defense applications. The interceptor is designed for vertical integration and containerized deployment, enabling rapid fielding and logistical flexibility at scale.
Ironwood is Long Wall's field-deployable ground system, operationally proven across four seasons in demanding environments. Designed as a containerized, mobile platform, Ironwood enables rapid site activation and supports both launch operations and missile defense system deployments. The system reflects Long Wall's core design philosophy of containerized form factors that unlock site diversity, streamlined logistics, and more flexible field operations — minimizing operations costs during both development and deployment phases.
RSX is Long Wall's small launch vehicle, carrying years of design iteration, subsystem testing, and flight operations experience derived from ABL Space Systems' RS1 program. RSX is built with a containerized form factor enabling launch from any flat pad globally, dramatically reducing site preparation costs and logistics complexity. The vehicle is designed for rapid assembly, high operational tempo, and low unit cost — making it suitable for responsive launch missions and defense applications requiring on-demand access to orbit.
