Description
SABHASAT is Nebula Space Organisation's flagship CubeSat mission and India's first dedicated gamma-ray burst detection observatory. Measuring 30 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm with a total mass of 5 kg (1.5 kg payload), the satellite is designed to observe low- and medium-energy gamma-ray bursts from the high-energy transient sky, covering an energy detection range of 2 keV to 2 MeV.
The spacecraft is planned to operate in a roughly 505 km orbit at a 97.41-degree inclination, following a five-year development programme with a targeted launch in 2026. Nebula Space Organisation positions SABHASAT as a dramatically smaller and lower-cost alternative to major international gamma-ray observatories such as NASA's Fermi and Swift missions and ISRO's ASTROSAT, achieving an average size reduction of around 99.8% compared to those instruments while aiming to preserve meaningful scientific capability for transient high-energy astrophysics research.
