Description
SASSI2 is a CubeSat mission developed by Purdue University's CubeSat Lab within the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, run as a Design-Build-Test Vertically Integrated Project. The mission is designed to characterize the flow field and radiation generated by the diffuse bow shock formed during high-speed flight through the upper atmosphere, providing flight data relevant to hypersonic and re-entry aerothermodynamics. SASSI2 is one of several active missions from Purdue's CubeSat Lab, alongside APEx (a pulsed magnetoplasmadynamic thruster technology demonstrator), the Aerodynamic Deorbit Experiment (ADE), and FEMTA, a MEMS-based tunable thruster array — all developed by undergraduate and graduate students as part of Purdue's long-running small-satellite design-build-test program.
