About Redwire Space Belgium (ex-QinetiQ Space)

Redwire Space Belgium, based in Kruibeke, is the Belgian subsidiary of Redwire Corporation, formed from the acquisition of QinetiQ Space nv in 2022. The Kruibeke facility carries decades of Belgian space engineering heritage, tracing back to the founding of the site (originally Verhaert Space, later QinetiQ Space) and its long-standing role as a prime contractor for the European Space Agency's PROBA series of technology-demonstration microsatellites, including PROBA-1, PROBA-2 and PROBA-V.

Today the facility delivers entire small satellites and major satellite equipment, including on-board computers, power control and distribution units, and remote terminal units, serving both institutional and commercial customers across Europe. Its areas of focus span small satellites and platforms, avionics, docking systems, scientific instruments, and life-support systems.

The site operates two ISO-certified cleanrooms (a 450 m² ISO7 cleanroom and a 250 m² ISO8 cleanroom), a dedicated KUKA robotics area, a machine shop, and a biological materials processing area, and holds ISO27001 and EN9100 certifications. Redwire Space Belgium is a major contributor to the infrastructure of the International Space Station, building sophisticated science instruments and life-support systems that enable long-duration crewed missions.

A flagship current development is the International Berthing and Docking Mechanism (IBDM), a NASA-compatible, androgynous, low-impact docking system for crewed and robotic spacecraft. As part of Redwire, the Kruibeke facility contributes its avionics, docking, and space-station hardware expertise to Redwire's broader portfolio of in-space manufacturing and spacecraft systems for European and global customers.
