About Spiral Blue

Spiral Blue Pty Ltd is a Sydney, Australia-based space technology company building LiDAR sensors and onboard AI computing hardware for LEO satellites, with a mission to protect the Earth from space. The company is the first Australian company to develop and operate AI hardware in space, having launched 10 Space Edge Computers (SE-1) aboard SpaceX Transporter rideshare missions starting January 2023, with first operational use in April 2023.

In 2025, Spiral Blue pivoted to LiDAR-in-space as its primary focus, targeting ground-truth-grade 3D Earth observation data with 1 metre horizontal accuracy and 10 cm vertical accuracy. They received an AUD $3 million Australian Government CRC-P grant in September 2025 to advance an AI-enabled LiDAR satellite demonstration from TRL 4 to TRL 7, with stratosphere testing planned for 2026 and orbital demonstration in 2027. Their SAPPHIRE LiDAR system has been exported to UK company Lodestar Space for defence proximity operations applications.

The company also runs the YCIS (Your Code In Space) program, enabling developers and researchers worldwide to run custom AI code on their in-orbit SE-1 computers. Key clients include KaleidEO (India), Esper Satellites, and LatConnect 60. Spiral Blue received the APRSAF-29 Space Achievement Award in September 2023.
