SSTL (Singapore Space and Technology Ltd / DSO National Laboratories)

DSO National Laboratories (DSO) was founded in 1972 as the Electronics Test Centre, established by then-Minister for Defence Goh Keng Swee to conduct defence research and development for Singapore. From a three-member founding team, DSO grew to over 1,700 research scientists and engineers working across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace domains. DSO has been instrumental in developing Singapore indigenous satellite capabilities, partnering with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to build X-SAT, Singapore first domestically developed satellite.

Singapore Space and Technology Ltd (SSTL, not to be confused with UK-based Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd) is a non-governmental space organisation in Singapore that organises the Global Space Technology Conference and Exhibition (GSTCE) annually. SSTL works to develop Singapore aerospace ecosystem and promote space technology development and commercialization.

DSO partnered with ST Engineering and NTU to develop TeLEOS-1 (Technology Experimentation Satellite), which became Singapore first domestically built commercial Earth observation spacecraft. DSO also launched Singapore first locally developed Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) microsatellite, and a new consortium was formed to develop an advanced small satellite at very low Earth orbit to trial new space technologies. Singapore space programme demonstrates the city-state ambition to develop an indigenous space industry despite its small size.
