Mantis Capture Bag™
Description
The Mantis Capture Bag™ is a lightweight, durable, and inflatable structure for orbital debris cleanup and the capture of uncooperative space objects. Successfully demonstrated on the International Space Station in October 2025, the Capture Bag features a unique cinching design that enables secure capture with minimal risk of damage — scalable from CubeSats to 1,000-ton asteroids. In 2025 TransAstra received a NASA award to build a flight-qualified 10-meter version. The system is safer and more reliable than robotic arm approaches, and includes a capture hand designed for soft capture of satellites with solar panels and antennas.
