About University of Manitoba
The University of Manitoba Space Applications and Technology Society (UMSATS) is an interdisciplinary student organization that designs and develops space-related projects. Their CubeSats Division has been developing a 3U CubeSat called TSAT since 2010, with TSAT-7 currently in development for a 2025-2026 competition. Previous iterations, TSAT-4 and TSAT-6, placed 1st in the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC) in 2018 and 2023 respectively. The Rocketry Division, founded in 2018, develops sounding rockets, including the Winnie series. They have successfully launched Winnie at the 2019 Spaceport America Cup and successive iterations at the Launch Canada Challenge (LCC) and Spaceport America Cup (SAC). They also perform in-house manufacturing of SRAD composite tubing and are developing a student-made hybrid propulsion system. The organization is headquartered at the University of Manitoba and was founded in October 2010. Their customers are competition organizers and the university community.
