1KUNS-PF (1 Kenya Universities NanoSatellite – Precursor Flight) is Kenya’s first satellite and the first CubeSat deployed from the International Space Station’s Kibo module under the UN/JAXA KiboCUBE programme. The 1U CubeSat was developed jointly by the University of Nairobi and Kyushu Institute of Technology (Japan) through the BIRDS-2 programme. It was launched to the ISS aboard HTV-7 and deployed on 11 May 2018. The satellite carries a camera payload and a multi-band receiver to monitor air traffic and maritime vessels using ADS-B/AIS signals.
