About
Aurora is Aevum’s proprietary mission management software that serves as the autonomous brain of the Ravn X launch system. Aurora handles all functions that traditional launch providers rely on human operators for: mission planning, vehicle health monitoring, weather go/no-go assessment, autonomous taxi and takeoff of the Ravn X UAS, rocket release and ignition sequencing, ascent trajectory guidance, and confirmation of payload deployment in orbit.
By replacing human operators with Aurora’s automated decision-making, Aevum claims it can dramatically reduce the cost and schedule burden of launch operations. Traditional rocket launches require hundreds of personnel across launch control, range safety, vehicle processing, and payload integration teams over weeks-to-months of pre-launch activity. Aurora’s approach targets mission turnaround in hours rather than weeks, which is particularly relevant for the US military’s Tactically Responsive Launch (TRL) requirement — the ability to launch a replacement satellite within 24 hours of a call from the warfighter.
Aevum has contracts with the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) under the Agile Small Launch Operationally Responsive Space (ASLON-45) program, specifically leveraging Aurora’s rapid-turnaround autonomous launch concept.
