About
China Satellite (China Satellite Communications, CHINASATCOM, 中国卫星通信集团) is China’s largest commercial satellite telecommunications operator, operating a fleet of Zhongxing (ChinaSat) and Dongfanghong series geostationary satellites providing broadcast, broadband, VSAT, and government communication services across Asia-Pacific.
The company operates 20+ GEO satellites covering China, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East, and the Pacific, providing C-band and Ku-band broadcast and VSAT services. ChinaSat satellites distribute digital television (CCTV, regional channels) to cable head-ends and DTH terminals across China and to Chinese diaspora communities globally. The company also provides Ku-band broadband (HTS) and government secure communications channels.
ChinaSat is a state-owned enterprise under China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), and its satellite fleet is manufactured primarily by CAST (China Academy of Space Technology) using DFH-4 and DFH-3 satellite platforms. The Dongfanghong (东方红, ‘The East is Red’) name references China’s first satellite launched in 1970.
