Small Sat Products and Services

Comat’s Small Sat business line focuses on innovation and industrialization to democratize access to space. Their products are designed with environmental concerns in mind for production and assembly, and are built to withstand demanding launch environments, ensuring mission flexibility. A core principle is to maximize the operational lifespan of orbital segments, with architectures targeting over 8 years of operation. All product technologies are developed using a ‘building blocks’ concept, allowing for rapid product family growth. The selection and testing of industrial components for these building blocks are based on a deep understanding of space environments and associated physics. Adapting industrial components is key to their development in the competitive small satellite market. Comat provides development, manufacturing, integration, and testing of space mechanisms. Specific products mentioned include the COMAT RW40 reaction wheel, deployable structures (developed for Kinéis IoT communication antennas), and radiators for OneWeb (including supply chain management and assembly of over 900 radiators). They are also involved in the INPEPSS project for integrating electric propulsion modules onto small satellite platforms.
