About
The Landmapper-BC, originally known as Corvus-BC, is a 6U Earth observation CubeSat developed by Astro Digital, formerly Aquila Space. The design is based on the Perseus-O satellites from Canopus Systems. These satellites are equipped with a broad coverage multispectral imaging system capable of capturing Red, Green, and Near-Infrared (NIR) bands with a resolution of 22 meters per pixel. The initial plan was to deploy a constellation of eight to ten Landmapper-BC satellites to provide daily, multispectral imagery of the world’s arable land. Several units have been launched, with varying degrees of success. Landmapper-BC 1 and 2 were launched in July 2017 but failed shortly after. Landmapper-BC 3 was launched in November 2017 but was lost due to an upper stage problem. Landmapper-BC 3 v2 was successfully launched in January 2018. Landmapper-BC 4 was launched in December 2018. The partially completed Landmapper-BC 5 was later modified to become the Mandrake 1 satellite when Astro Digital shelved plans for their own Earth observation constellation.
