COSATS Space provides satellite-based monitoring services for maritime and coastal environments, focusing on AIS (Automatic Identification System) ship tracking, ocean color remote sensing, and coastal zone environmental monitoring. The company aggregates satellite data from multiple sources to provide comprehensive maritime domain awareness and environmental monitoring products.
AIS ship tracking from space (satellite-AIS, or S-AIS) uses small receivers on LEO satellites to detect and decode AIS transponder signals from ships, providing near-global coverage of commercial vessel positions even in areas beyond VHF radio range (which limits terrestrial AIS to ~40 nautical miles from shore). COSATS combines S-AIS data with optical imagery for vessel identification and monitoring of fishing fleet activity, compliance enforcement, and maritime safety.
Ocean color remote sensing (measuring water-leaving radiance in multiple spectral bands) provides data on phytoplankton concentration, suspended sediment, and water quality — enabling monitoring of algal blooms, coral reef health, and water pollution. COSATS packages these data streams into analytics products for port authorities, maritime insurance, fisheries management agencies, and environmental monitoring organizations.
