A low-cost, single-axis, coarse-resolution sun sensor. USA-sourced and manufactured, the highly reliable CSS Coarse Sun Sensor has over 20 years of space flight heritage. It contains a single photodiode and its housing assembly serves as an aperture. Applications: Attitude Determination during Launch Vehicle Separation, Initial Attitude Acquisition, Emergencies and Off-Nominal Modes, Sun Vector Determination. Available in front-mount (CSS-01) and back-mount (CSS-02) configurations.
