About

Deep Blue Aerospace (深蓝航天, Shenzhen) is a Chinese private commercial launch startup developing the Nebula-1 (Xingyun-1) small launch vehicle with propulsive first-stage reusability. Founded in 2016, the company has conducted multiple successful vertical takeoff and landing (VTVL) tests of its Nebula-M technology demonstrator rocket, progressively increasing altitude — reaching 10 km hover-and-return altitude in 2022.

Nebula-1 targets approximately 1,000 kg to LEO in expendable configuration, with planned first-stage reusability reducing cost per flight for repeat customers. It uses LOX/kerosene propellants and a cluster of Cangqiong engines (in-house developed by Deep Blue Aerospace). The company is targeting both domestic Chinese commercial launch market and international small satellite operators.

Deep Blue Aerospace has received substantial investment from Chinese venture firms and government-backed funds and is among the most technically advanced Chinese private launch companies given its VTVL demonstration record. Orbital test flights are targeted for the mid-2020s.
