About
EROS (Earth Remote Observation System) is a family of commercial very-high-resolution Earth observation satellites developed by ImageSat International (ISI), a company closely associated with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Elbit Systems. The EROS satellites provide sub-50 cm panchromatic resolution from sun-synchronous orbits at approximately 500 km altitude.
EROS-B (launched 2006) provides 70 cm resolution; EROS-C3 (3rd generation) targets 35 cm panchromatic and 140 cm multispectral resolution. The satellites are built and operated by ISI with Israeli defense industry backing and serve both commercial mapping and intelligence customers globally. EROS imagery has been sold to the US NGA, Israeli military, and commercial customers in oil and gas, infrastructure monitoring, and national mapping agency sectors.
Elbit Systems Space Division also develops satellite subsystems, electro-optical payloads, and hosted payloads for military satellites, including EO cameras for the Israeli Ofeq military reconnaissance satellite series and OPTSAT-3000 (Italian military reconnaissance satellite). Elbit is headquartered in Haifa, Israel.
