About
The Suitcase Multi-Magnetometer Facility (Suitcase-MMF) from Emtech Space is a portable magnetic characterization system that delivers laboratory-grade precision directly to hardware in the field, eliminating the need to transport sensitive flight equipment to fixed testing facilities. The system fits within a single carry-on suitcase and pairs fluxgate and search-coil sensors (Sensys/Bartington) with Bluetooth wireless connectivity and smartphone-based positioning using Aruco markers for rapid setup without specialist metrology infrastructure.
The Suitcase-MMF covers DC to 50 kHz, capturing both static permanent magnetic dipoles and dynamic AC transient signatures from spacecraft operating modes. Automated Multi-Dipole Modeling (MDM) post-processing transforms raw field measurements into completed magnetic models ready for mission compliance reporting, matching the analytical output of the fixed Snapshot-MMF facility at a fraction of the deployment cost.
Multiple Suitcase-MMF units can be daisy-chained to create larger array configurations, and the system maintains signal integrity in non-shielded, noisy environments — enabling effective measurements outside of EMC chambers. Target applications include unit-level and system-level magnetic cleanliness verification at customer sites, system integration facilities, and test campaigns where the equipment under test cannot be relocated.
