About
Gama Space’s solar sail propulsion system uses continuous acceleration from sunlight pressure to propel spacecraft across deep space distances without consuming propellant. This makes it possible to reach far-away destinations such as the Oort Cloud, conduct persistent exploration of planets and moons at scale, and deploy swarms of small sail-powered probes unconstrained by fuel limits.
For resource applications, solar sails enable efficient mapping missions to near-Earth asteroids, identifying valuable materials for future extraction (e.g. for fusion fuel or in-situ resource utilization), with precise orbit adjustment capability suited to detailed surveys. Solar sails can also help mitigate communication interruptions during solar conjunctions.
For research, Gama’s solar sails support solar weather monitoring missions at Lagrange points and research missions to the moons of Jupiter, reducing mission costs by more than a factor of 10 compared to conventional propulsion — lowering the barrier to entry for diverse research communities. The technology also enables lower-cost visits to inner planets, particularly Mercury, via outer-planet gravity-assist flybys.
