About

Goonhilly Earth Station is a historic UK communications facility in Cornwall, England, transformed into a commercial deep space communications hub. The site’s iconic GHY-6 (Merlin) antenna — originally built for satellite communications — has been upgraded to be capable of communicating with spacecraft at lunar distances and beyond, making Goonhilly one of only a handful of commercial deep space ground stations globally.

Goonhilly provides tracking, telemetry, and command (TT&C) services for missions to the Moon, Mars, and deep space as a commercial alternative to NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN) and ESA’s ESTRACK network. As lunar missions proliferate (NASA Artemis, commercial lunar landers, CSA and JAXA lunar programs), the DSN faces booking bottlenecks and commercial alternatives like Goonhilly provide mission operators with additional coverage and schedule flexibility.

The company supported the UK Space Agency’s CIRCE spacecraft, ESA’s SolarOrbiter mission support, and has contracted with commercial lunar lander missions for TT&C. Goonhilly also provides space domain awareness (SDA) observations and radiometric data for satellite orbit determination. The company is backed by UK government innovation funding and private investors, and is developing additional large dish antennas to expand deep space capacity.
