About
Hanwha Phasor (created from Hanwha Systems’ acquisition of UK-based Phasor Solutions in 2022) manufactures electronically-steered antenna (ESA) flat panel systems for satellite communications. Unlike conventional mechanically-pointing dish antennas, Phasor’s electronically-steered panels have no moving parts — they steer the radio beam electronically by controlling the phase of signals across thousands of tiny antenna elements on a flat panel surface.
The absence of moving mechanical parts enables dramatic size, weight, and power advantages: a Phasor panel is typically 10–30 mm thick and can be mounted flush against an aircraft fuselage, ship deck, or vehicle roof without aerodynamic impact. The electronic beam steering switches between GEO, MEO, and LEO satellites in milliseconds — enabling multi-orbit multi-beam operation that maximizes throughput by switching between satellites as they pass overhead.
Hanwha’s ESA technology targets the aero, maritime, and land mobility satellite communications market where mechanical antennas are impractical due to their height, fragility, and high-speed motion exposure. The aviation market — connecting passenger aircraft to Starlink and Intelsat/SES high-throughput satellites — is particularly valuable, and Phasor’s flat panel enables seamless Ku/Ka-band connectivity at jet speeds that mechanical antennas struggle with.
