About

ITUpSAT1 is Turkey’s first student-built satellite, developed by Istanbul Technical University (ITU). The 1U CubeSat was designed, integrated, and tested by ITU students and researchers from the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It was launched on September 23, 2009, aboard ISRO’s PSLV-C14 rocket as a secondary payload, making it one of the earliest Turkish satellites. The satellite demonstrated ITU’s capability in small satellite development and laid the foundation for the ITU Space Technologies Research Center (SpaceTech). ITUpSAT1 carried an attitude control system and camera for Earth observation.
