Kongsberg Space Communication Systems

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) develops satellite communication products including SATCOM terminals, antenna systems, and satellite payloads for maritime, military, and government customers. The Space Division designs and manufactures SATCOM-on-the-move (SOTM) terminals that maintain satellite link tracking while a ship, vehicle, or aircraft is in motion — critical for military operations and commercial maritime communications.

Kongsberg’s MSAT (Maritime Satellite) terminal range provides Inmarsat L-band connectivity for vessel safety communications and is required equipment on commercial ships under the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). The company also produces military SATCOM terminals for Norwegian Armed Forces and NATO customers, designed to resist electronic warfare and operate in contested environments.

Kongsberg also participates in satellite manufacturing consortia for ESA programs through its space electronics division. Kongsberg is Norway’s largest defence and space company, headquartered in Kongsberg, Norway. The company is related to but distinct from KSAT (Kongsberg Satellite Services), the ground station network company — both are part of the broader Kongsberg Group.
