About
Launcher (now a VAST subsidiary) developed the E-2 liquid oxygen/RP-1 (kerosene) rocket engine for the Launcher Light small orbital launch vehicle. E-2 uses an expander-bleed cycle and advanced manufacturing — including 3D-printed chamber and nozzle components — to achieve a compact, high-performance engine suitable for a small orbital rocket in the 150 kg to LEO class.
Launcher was founded by Max Haot (co-founder of Livestream) and pursued a test-fast, iterate-fast engine development philosophy similar to Rocket Lab’s Rutherford development program. The E-2 engine underwent an extensive series of test firings at NASA Stennis Space Center and Launcher’s own test facility, progressively validating the engine design to operational thrust levels.
Launcher was acquired by VAST in 2023. VAST’s primary focus is commercial space station development (Haven-1, the first private commercial space station, launched in 2025 on a Falcon 9), and Launcher’s propulsion team and technology contribute to VAST’s long-term propulsion capabilities. The E-2 engine program provided VAST with in-house liquid propulsion development capability for future station orbit maintenance and servicing applications.
