About

The NanoSat MO Framework is an advanced software framework specifically designed for small satellites, leveraging CCSDS Mission Operations services. It introduces the innovative concept of ‘Apps in space,’ allowing applications to be started and stopped remotely from the ground. These Apps can retrieve data from the satellite platform through a set of well-defined MO services. The framework boasts a modular and flexible design, offering extensive possibilities for extensions. Its utility is not limited to the space segment; it also provides all the necessary building blocks for a complete and free end-to-end solution that extends down to ground operations. Developed by Graz University of Technology in partnership with the European Space Agency, the software is currently maintained by the European Space Agency. It aims to usher in a new era of ‘smartsatellites,’ mirroring the paradigm shift seen in mobile phones from basic devices to smartphones. The framework was successfully demonstrated on-board the OPS-SAT mission. It enables Apps to collect data from instruments and process it on-board, facilitating simpler, faster, and better operations with world-class cutting-edge technology and complete end-to-end data communication from space to ground.
