About
Aurora is a new generation two-stage launch vehicle that leverages hybrid rocket technology to offer responsive and on-demand space access at an affordable price point. It is designed to enable small satellite operators to launch on their own terms, avoiding long wait times and high costs associated with legacy systems, and aims to secure sovereign and ITAR-free space access for Canada and its allies. The vehicle is powered by the RE-202C engine, a low-parts count hybrid engine engineered for scalable manufacturing and safe stockpiling. The RE-202C engines utilize a solid fuel and a liquid oxidizer, a combination that significantly simplifies rocket propulsion compared to traditional liquid engines which require complex components like tanks, turbopumps, and cryogenic systems. This streamlined architecture of the Aurora engine reduces explosion risks, manufacturing costs, and assembly time, resulting in a safer, lighter, and faster-to-deploy rocket ideal for missions requiring responsiveness. The hybrid engine technology offers several advantages including safer and stockpile-friendly operations due to non-explosive, non-toxic, room-temperature storable materials, reduced hazards during storage, transport, and launch. It also boasts a lower cost profile due to fewer components and leaner operations, providing access to space without the typical cost premium of small launchers. Furthermore, it simplifies ground operations, requiring minimal support and quick deployment without complex ground systems. The highly throttleable design of the RE-202 engines enables precise and reliable orbit delivery for payloads up to 200kg.
