Rendezvous, Proximity Operations (RPO) and Docking Capabilities

Astroscale is one of the few commercial companies globally to have proven Rendezvous, Proximity Operations and Docking (RPOD) capabilities in orbit. RPOD is the essential baseline for on-orbit servicing, without which a secure and sustainable future in space cannot be achieved. It allows one spacecraft to safely approach, inspect, interact with, and ultimately service or remove another satellite. This capability is crucial for missions involving refueling, life extension, or end-of-life removal. Operating safely near another object in space is a highly technical challenge, especially with non-communicative or tumbling clients and rapidly changing conditions. Astroscale’s RPOD technology is built on three pillars: Detection and Tracking, Onboard Intelligence, and Precision Maneuvering. This robust capability is enabling a fundamental shift in how space is used, moving towards a future where satellites are maintained, upgraded, repositioned, and retired through routine on-orbit servicing.
