About
SpaceShare is Satellize’s flagship initiative to democratize space access for Indian educational institutions and non-profit organizations. The program crowdsources non-commercial research payloads from universities, colleges, and NGOs across India, integrates them into a unified SpaceShare satellite chassis, and delivers the chassis to ISRO for deployment as a hosted payload on the PS4 fourth stage of PSLV rockets as an orbital platform at approximately 500 km polar orbit. Each SpaceShare payload occupies a Eurocard-format slot (16 × 10 × 5 cm) within the shared chassis. The PS4 stage provides 200 W of solar power, and Satellize supplies regulated power, serial ports, and ground connectivity to each participant payload. Participants receive their scientific data directly on their smartphones via Satellize’s ground station network and sister service groundcloud.co. A landmark SpaceShare mission was designed to simultaneously host payloads from 10 universities, colleges, and NGOs — more than the total number of student satellites India had launched in the preceding decades combined. Payload development cost per participant is approximately ₹1 lakh (~$1,200 USD) with a build-to-delivery timeline of approximately 6 weeks. By sharing costs across participants and leveraging ISRO’s PS4 platform infrastructure, SpaceShare reduces the barrier to orbital science to a level accessible to even small educational institutions in India.
