About
The SpacePharma Fluid Management System is a sophisticated solution for precise fluid handling, particularly suited for microgravity environments. It comprises two main components: the SPuMP and the D-Pump. The SPuMP is a 2 ml syringe pump, driven by a step-motor, and features a temperature-controlled syringe reservoir. Up to four SPuMPs can be independently controlled from a single main controller. The D-Pump is a diaphragm pump with a 1.2 ml temperature-controlled reservoir. It operates hydraulically, driven by a SPuMP which acts as an accurate hydraulic driver. The system’s control board, manifold, and valve systems enable independent operation of up to four SPuMPs, each capable of driving two D-Pumps. This configuration allows the system to function as a multiplexed pump, where each D-Pump can be operated independently with repeating pumping and refilling cycles. This Fluid Management System has a significant flight heritage, having completed 8 missions to the International Space Station and participated in 3 parabolic flights, demonstrating its reliability and performance in space conditions.
