About

A central commercial product of Starlab Space’s commercial space station is its George Washington Carver Science Park — dedicated life sciences and research laboratory facilities aboard the station named in honor of the pioneering agricultural scientist. The Carver Science Park provides fully equipped microgravity laboratories for pharmaceutical research, materials science, biomedical studies, and technology demonstration, accessible to customers who purchase research time without operating or maintaining any station hardware themselves.

Pharmaceutical companies are major prospective customers: many drugs exhibit improved crystal structure when crystallized in microgravity, and protein folding studies in microgravity have revealed drug-target interactions invisible in ground experiments. Materials science customers include semiconductor and advanced ceramics researchers. For biomedical research, microgravity accelerates bone density loss, muscle atrophy, and cardiovascular changes — creating accelerated aging models useful for drug development targeting those conditions.

Starlab has signed Letters of Intent with Merck, Procter & Gamble, and other industrial companies to conduct research aboard the station. Research slots are sold on a per-cubic-foot-per-day basis (analogous to ISS pricing, approximately $3,500/ft²/day for power-intensive experiments). NASA will also purchase research time on Starlab as part of its CLD agreement, providing a baseline revenue stream alongside commercial sales.
