The MASTER series of On-Board Computers (OBCs) from 2nd Space is designed for CubeSat applications, offering different configurations to suit various mission requirements.
The MASTER OBC features a dual-core processor setup with a Cortex M7 running at 480MHz and a Cortex M4 at 240MHz, enabling multi-operation capabilities. It supports Over-the-Air (OTA) updates and is compatible with FreeRTOS. Communication interfaces include 13 types such as CAN, RS422, RS485, UART, USART, I2C, and SPI. It also provides 8x GPIO and 6x ADC inputs, 2x SD storage memory, 64 Mb Synchronous DRAM, 32-Mbit SPI Serial Flash memory, a 6-Axis IMU, and a temperature sensor.
The MASTER-CHIEF is an Extended On-Board Computer, building upon the MASTER's foundation. It also features a dual-core processor (Cortex M7 480MHz, Cortex M4 240MHz) for multi-operation. A key differentiator is its independent core processor (Cortex M7 400MHz) dedicated to critical data management, equipped with 1MB RAM with ECC and 2MB Program memory. It shares many features with the MASTER, including OTA updates, FreeRTOS compatibility, 13 communication interfaces, 8x GPIO / 6x ADC inputs, 64 Mb Synchronous DRAM, 32-Mbit SPI Serial Flash memory, and a 6-Axis IMU. Additionally, it includes a High-Speed LVDS Interface (>10Mbps) and 3x SD storage memory.
The MASTER-II is a High-Performance On-Board Computer designed for resilient missions with an advanced modular architecture. It offers single or dual independent computing sections and incorporates a PolarFire SoC processor with integrated FPGA fabric. An FPGA-based guardian provides independent supervision, complemented by hardware watchdog, reset, and power-cycling control. It supports active/standby or dual-active redundancy modes and hardware-driven fault detection and failover. The MASTER-II also features on-demand Coral Edge TPU AI acceleration, 6x configurable RS-422 / RS-485 interfaces, 2x CAN Bus, and 10x FPGA-configurable GPIO. Connectivity options include up to 4x SpaceWire or SpaceWire + LVDS, 2x Gigabit Ethernet, and a high-speed SERDES option. A modular BRIDGE board allows for SpaceFibre / 10GbE expansion, and it is designed for energy-efficient activation of high-performance resources.
