Description
DEIMOS-1 is a Spanish Earth observation microsatellite built by KAIST SaTReC (Korea) for Deimos Imaging, a subsidiary of Elecnor. Launched on 29 July 2009 from Baikonur aboard a Rokot/Briz-KM launch vehicle, DEIMOS-1 operates in a sun-synchronous orbit at 663 km altitude.
The satellite has a mass of approximately 100 kg and carries a multispectral imager providing 22-meter resolution imagery in three spectral bands: red, green, and near-infrared. It has a wide swath of 600 km, enabling it to cover large geographic areas efficiently.
DEIMOS-1 has been used extensively for agricultural monitoring, forest management, coastal surveillance, and disaster response. Together with UK-DMC2, it formed part of the Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC). The mission demonstrates KAIST SaTReC's capability to develop operational Earth observation satellites for international customers.
