About Launchbox Space

Launchbox was founded in Adelaide, Australia in 2014 as an education-technology venture built around real satellite hardware rather than simulations. Its core offering was a CubeSat kit that let school classes design, assemble, and operate their own model satellites, run onboard space experiments, and launch the finished CubeSats into the stratosphere via balloon.

Launchbox is described as the originating educational startup from which the founders of Fleet Space Technologies emerged. By 2020 Launchbox had stopped accepting new program entrants, redirecting interested schools to Fleet Space, which absorbed and relaunched the concept as 'LaunchBox by Fleet' — students form a mock space company, build a CubeSat, and compete to launch it roughly 40km up via weather balloon.

Today the hands-on hardware and curriculum are delivered through Robinson Aerospace Systems (Welland, South Australia), which manufactures the RASCube LB educational satellite kits used in the LaunchBox program, in partnership with Fleet Space. As of 2025 the program was funded by the Australian Federal Government's Schools Pathways initiative, providing kits free to Year 7 students nationally.
