Description
PHASMA is the Libre Space Foundation's in-orbit demonstration mission, consisting of two CubeSats (PHASMA-DIRAC and PHASMA-LAMARR) developed to participate in Greece's national IOD/IOV CubeSat programme. The mission validates the SIDLOC (Spacecraft Identification and Localization) technology, which uses broad-spectrum beacons received by the SatNOGS global network to identify and localise spacecraft.
Both PHASMA spacecraft were developed by LSF using open-source hardware and software principles, with all designs, firmware, and mission data made publicly available. The satellites operate in LEO and are visible to the global SatNOGS network, which provides continuous telemetry collection from community-operated ground stations worldwide.
PHASMA demonstrates how open-source principles can be applied to complete satellite missions — from bus design through to ground segment operations. The mission also validates Greece's emerging sovereign space technology capability and LSF's ability to develop and operate commercial-grade CubeSats within the national IOD programme framework.
