Description
ATHENOXAT-1 is a 3U cubesat nanosatellite developed by Microspace for a client in Singapore to demonstrate a novel high-resolution night-vision imaging system. Launched on 16 December 2015 aboard a PSLV rocket from Sriharikota, India, into an equatorial Low Earth Orbit, ATHENOXAT-1 carries five imaging payloads in total: the primary night-vision camera plus four additional daytime wide-angle cameras. Microspace developed the satellite's optical systems, in-house reaction wheels for precise attitude control, double-sided deployable solar panels to gather sufficient power for night-time imaging operations, and the scheduling and imaging software. The mission successfully achieved TRL9 for Microspace's optical technologies, reaction wheels, and high-power deployable photovoltaics, and the satellite has continued operating for years beyond its planned mission, capturing high-resolution night imagery of cities as well as wide-angle daytime Earth images.
