The Messenger Module is OutThere Astronautics' optical inter-satellite communication terminal, built to let satellites form mesh networks and exchange data directly with one another rather than depending solely on ground-based radio stations. The module is designed for attitude-independent operation, meaning it can maintain optical links regardless of a spacecraft's orientation, and is built as a plug-and-play payload intended to simplify integration onto smallsat and constellation platforms. By routing traffic through an optical mesh of satellites, the Messenger Module aims to provide scalable connectivity that is not limited by ground station visibility, RF spectrum congestion, or licensing constraints — addressing a growing bottleneck as tens of thousands of new satellites are launched into orbit.
