Description
Paragon Space Development Corporation designs and manufactures fully modular Environmental Controls and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) in both open and closed-loop configurations. Paragon's 'Common ECLSS' design philosophy ensures system commonality across vehicle and mission types, reducing non-recurring design cost and schedule. ECLSS subsystems include: Atmospheric Ventilation and Supply (currently under development for NASA's Gateway HALO module), Atmospheric Monitoring System (AMS) with a microgravity-optimized smoke detector, and Atmosphere Revitalization Systems (ARS) covering atmospheric temperature and humidity control, CO2 removal, oxygen production, air filtering, trace contaminant control, air constituent monitoring, and post-fire recovery. Water recovery products include the Ionomer-membrane Water Processor (IWP) technology — Paragon's patented approach that uses membrane distillation driven by cabin air flow — and the Brine Processor Assembly (BPA), which launched to the ISS in February 2021 and increased water loop closure from 93% to >98%. Additional derivatives include the Primary Urine Processor (PUP), which can recover >98% water directly from pretreated urine, and the Primary Water Processor (PWP), which produces crew-potable water. The Humidity Control Subassembly (HCS) — based on IWP — is baselined on Boeing's CST-100 Starliner for cabin humidity control with no moving parts. Paragon was prime systems integrator on the StratEx mission for manned stratospheric exploration above 135,000 feet (41.4 km), integrating ECLSS and thermal control into a pressure suit. Paragon also supplies integrated electronics for ECLSS/TCS systems.
