Description
The EarthLife satellite platform is SARsatX's in-house small-satellite bus, engineered to host combined Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical Earth observation payloads. It is the core hardware building block of the company's planned constellation of 16 satellites, designed to deliver high-resolution, all-weather, day-and-night Earth observation with a target tasking-to-delivery turnaround of roughly four hours, aimed at reaching full operational capacity by 2027.
The platform architecture is optimized specifically for SAR missions, balancing performance, reliability and scalable deployment across varied observation needs, from persistent regional monitoring to rapid-response tasking. SARsatX's SAR payload design draws on radar systems validated in prior space missions, targeting consistent, high-quality imaging with strong signal-to-noise performance and geolocation precision, complemented by mission-analysis and orbit-determination work to optimize coverage and revisit rates over the Middle East and Africa. Because SAR imaging is unaffected by cloud cover, darkness or weather, it complements the platform's optical payload, which provides higher-resolution imagery in clear conditions and imagery that is easier for non-specialist analysts to visually interpret.
Each satellite in the constellation is designed to integrate seamlessly with SARsatX's ground segment and the EarthLife analytics platform, so that raw SAR and optical signals captured in orbit are automatically processed into actionable intelligence products for customers in defense, energy, maritime, agriculture, disaster response, urban planning and environmental-security sectors. As a pre-operational program, the constellation is in a phased build-up: SARsatX has validated key mission and radar-performance concepts via its SSX-1 airborne demonstrator ahead of committing the payload design to the orbital EarthLife bus.
