About Xona Space Systems

Xona Space Systems is a Burlingame, California-based company developing Pulsar — the world's first commercial Low Earth Orbit positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) constellation. Founded by a team of navigation engineers, Xona is addressing the fundamental vulnerability of legacy GNSS infrastructure (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou) by building an independent, LEO-native navigation system that delivers dramatically stronger signals, centimeter-level accuracy, and built-in cryptographic authentication from the ground up.

The Pulsar constellation operates at approximately 1,080 km altitude — roughly 20 times closer to Earth than GPS — enabling received signal power up to 100 times greater than GPS L1 C/A at the user terminal. Pulsar broadcasts on two L-band signals (X1 and X5, spectrally adjacent to GPS L1 and L5 respectively) using EFQPSK modulation, which allows existing dual-band GNSS receivers to receive Pulsar signals via a firmware update, with no RF hardware changes required. This backward compatibility is a cornerstone of Xona's market strategy.

Xona's first production satellite, Pulsar-0, launched on 23 June 2025 aboard SpaceX's Transporter-14 rideshare mission. After one year of operation, Pulsar-0 demonstrated 1.5 cm native horizontal positioning accuracy — without correction networks, RTK base stations, or augmentation services — and sub-10 nanosecond UTC timing accuracy. Xona holds the first FCC commercial license to broadcast navigation signals in the GNSS L-band.

The Pulsar Verified ecosystem program has attracted receiver OEM and chipset partners including Trimble, Septentrio (Hexagon), STMicroelectronics, Safran, StarNav, and Keysight. The full 258–300 satellite constellation is planned to provide global coverage with near-instantaneous 25 cm convergence and real-time centimeter-level accuracy.

Milestones

  • 2019 Xona Space Systems founded in California
  • 2021 Seed funding and Series A raised; Pulsar signal design finalized
  • 2022 FCC commercial license granted — first to broadcast in GNSS L-band
  • 2023 Pulsar-0 prototype (Sharp) demonstrated key payload technologies on orbit
  • 2025 Pulsar-0 production satellite launched on SpaceX Transporter-14 (23 June)
  • 2026 Pulsar-0 demonstrates 1.5 cm native positioning accuracy after one year; Pulsar Verified ecosystem launched with 6 major partners
