About
The Poker Flat Research Range (PFRR) near Fairbanks, Alaska, is the largest land-based rocket research facility in the world and the only high-latitude rocket range in the United States. Positioned beneath the auroral oval, PFRR is uniquely suited for sounding rocket research into the aurora borealis, the arctic atmosphere, and the ionosphere. Operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute under contract with NASA Wallops Flight Facility, PFRR attracts scientific researchers globally with prime launch windows from January to March. Alaska Aerospace Corporation partners with UAFGI and supports expanded licensing efforts for orbital launch over land from this range.
