About

Beyond Reach Labs is an advanced propulsion research company pushing the boundaries of achievable specific impulse and power density for spacecraft propulsion systems. The company’s name reflects its mission: developing propulsion technologies that make currently ‘beyond reach’ destinations (asteroids, outer planets, interstellar space) practical targets for robotic and eventually crewed missions.

Beyond Reach Labs works on several advanced propulsion concepts: electrodeless plasma thrusters (which use RF/microwave energy to ionize propellant without electrodes that erode over time — dramatically extending thruster lifetime), high-power Hall effect thrusters at the 10–100 kW level (enabling very high delta-V missions with near-term technology), and emerging concepts in field-effect electrostatic propulsion.

The company’s business model combines government research contracts (SBIR/STTR from NASA and DARPA) with technology licensing to satellite and spacecraft manufacturers who need next-generation propulsion performance. Advanced propulsion for deep-space exploration is a growing priority for NASA’s Artemis program (lunar Gateway power and propulsion), commercial missions to the asteroid belt, and long-duration LEO/GEO orbit raising.
