About

Blue Moon is Blue Origin’s family of lunar landers, developed to support NASA’s Artemis program to return humans to the Moon and build a sustainable long-term lunar presence. The family includes two variants: the Mark 1 robotic cargo lander and the larger Mark 2 crewed lander, both powered by BE-7 liquid hydrogen/liquid oxygen engines.

The Blue Moon Mark 1 stands 8.05 meters tall with a fueled mass of 21,350 kg and can deliver up to 3,000 kg of cargo to the lunar surface. It is designed for fully autonomous operations, precise pin-point landing, and can function as a surface power and communications hub for subsequent missions. Multiple Mark 1 deliveries can establish infrastructure for the Mark 2 crewed lander.

The Blue Moon Mark 2 crewed lander stands 16 meters tall with a launch mass exceeding 45,000 kg, accommodates four crew members, and is rated for lunar surface stays of up to 30 days. In its reusable cargo configuration it can deliver 20,000 kg to the lunar surface (30,000 kg one-way). An uncrewed demonstration flight is planned for 2027 with crewed Artemis V flights targeted for around 2030.

Blue Origin paused New Shepard commercial flights in early 2026 to redirect engineering and manufacturing resources toward accelerating the Blue Moon program, reflecting its priority within the company’s roadmap.
