About
Canon Electronics (a subsidiary of Canon Inc., the Japanese imaging and optics company) develops high-performance optical systems and cameras for satellite Earth observation missions. Canon Electronics applies Canon’s expertise in precision optics, image sensors, and optical system integration to the demanding environment of space.
Canon Electronics has been developing satellite Earth observation systems through its ALE satellite collaboration (Canon Electronics manufactured the optical telescope for ALE satellites), and is developing its own commercial Earth observation satellite constellation. The company’s cameras have been used for small satellite Earth observation demonstrations and Canon has announced plans for a constellation of Earth observation satellites using its own optical technology.
Canon Electronics is also one of the founding shareholders of Space One Corporation (alongside IHI Aerospace and Shimizu Corporation), which is developing the KAIROS small launch vehicle with Kii Space Port. This positions Canon Electronics as both an imaging system provider and a commercial launch industry participant in Japan’s commercial space ecosystem.
