About

VOLANS is Equatorial Space Systems’ family of modular, low-cost small-satellite launch vehicles, designed for payload capacities of up to 750 kg to Low Earth Orbit. It is powered by the company’s proprietary hybrid propulsion technology combining a High Test Peroxide (HTP) oxidizer with its High Regression Fuel 1 (HRF-1) grain, making VOLANS the first 100% pyrotechnics-and-explosives-free orbital launch vehicle.

Because the vehicle carries no conventional explosives or pyrotechnic devices, it is inherently safer to manufacture, transport, and handle, and can be launched from near-equatorial sites to deliver payloads directly to a customer’s chosen orbital inclination at low cost and on flexible schedules. The hybrid HTP/HRF-1 propulsion system is designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 60% and launch cost by up to 80% relative to traditional kerosene/LOX (KEROLOX) propulsion, with zero TNT-equivalent explosive hazard.
