Free-Space Optical Communication Systems
Space-qualified free-space optical communications terminals for satellite crosslinks, ground-to-space links, and deep-space data relay.
About
Fibertek’s free-space optical (FSO) communications systems provide high-bandwidth, long-range data links for space, airborne, and terrestrial applications. The systems are engineered for deep-space readiness and scalability, offering significant capacity advantages over RF communications for missions requiring high data throughput from orbit.
The product line encompasses the full terminal stack: laser modems, fiber amplifiers, optical transceivers, pointing-acquisition-tracking (PAT) systems, and complete laser communications terminal assemblies. Fibertek’s engineering team has hands-on experience with the unique challenges of space-qualified optical communications hardware, including thermal management, radiation tolerance, and precision optical alignment maintenance over mission lifetimes.
Fibertek’s FSO systems are engineered for scalability, enabling configurations suitable for satellite-to-satellite crosslinks, ground-to-space uplinks and downlinks, and inter-platform communications at ranges from LEO to deep space. The company supports customers from concept studies through prototype development, qualification testing, and flight delivery.
With deep expertise in advanced photonics and a heritage of delivering space-qualified laser hardware to NASA, Fibertek brings rigorous systems engineering discipline to optical communications terminal development for the most demanding mission environments.
